Exploring how cognitive science guides AI design and behavior.
The BIG Idea
How have early ideas of artificial intelligence and cognitive models shaped the creation of AI, particularly in its ability to mimic human intelligence and consciousness through advanced user interfaces?
The growth of artificial intelligence (AI) has had a significant effect on 21st century debates of ethics. This technology has been influenced by fields dedicated to analyzing human behavior like cognitive science.
Cognitive models, which seek to determine how a person’s thoughts and beliefs influence their behavior, are the foundation to shaping AI’s ability to “replicate” human intelligence, they allow for human cognition and language processing, allowing AI to problem-solve, learn, and make decisions.
Incorporating cognitive psychology into AI can help machines better understand human emotions, mental states, and decision-making processes expanding human-computer interaction (Zhao et al., 2022, 02). From voice-activated systems to personalized recommendation systems, the influence of AI has redefined how humans interact with machines, making technology more tailored to an individual’s needs.
